Have you ever turned on your TV to watch the news or gotten deep down a thread of a political argument on Social Media, only to realize how disappointed you are in humanity? Well, I have, and do, all the time.
Just the other night, I had watched one of those ridiculously cute videos of like a baby and a puppy. You know, the ones that are just so goofy and make you smile from ear to ear? And right there in the comments section people were arguing about things that had nothing to do with the above, adorable video.
My heart sunk at seeing the words on the screen. Complete strangers, living in completely different places on the planet, arguing with each other.
It seems that every time I get on Facebook to see what my friends are up to or turn on the TV to see the news, I’m once again disappointed at how we humans behave towards one another.
We have petty arguments, we kill each other over money, power, and greed. Women compare themselves to what they see on the big screen, willing to nick and tuck their bodies, and starve themselves all to feel whole. We drown ourselves in drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling, or food to numb the pain that we are too afraid to face. We choose these things for ourselves because it’s what we think we deserve. We are already worthless, so we deserve to sell ourselves short, right?
At the end of the day though, my faith is what makes sense in the midst of all the hateful words and violent actions that take place in our world. Against everything, we have the power through God to take a stand and stake claim over the lives we have been given. Our worth is found in the Father who sacrificed everything to give us everything.
Our choice should be to live the best lives we can and be the best versions of who God created us to be.
Those videos on YouTube, the goofy ones that make you smile is what it’s all about. Letting the simple things that you can’t get with money or greed make you happy. Letting the love of God rule in our hearts over the hurt that has slithered in there. Life is all about what we make of it and our choices can fuel our happiness if we let them.
Choose wisely my friends and don’t be afraid to let yourselves be happy! God wants that for you and so do I!
